On Sunday November 20 we celebrated an important milestone as our Share the Plate program reached $25,000 in donations since its inception in 2010! Share the Plate directs half of the cash donations we receive each Sunday to carefully selected justice partners, organizations whose work on a variety of social justice issues deserves our recognition and support.
Our first recipient way back in 2010 was Jeron Cares, a scholarship fund begun as a memorial to Jeron Grayson, a Hill District college student who had recently been a victim of gun violence. Since then we have helped more than two dozen different partners. Some, like Northside Common Ministries and the Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network, we collaborate with regularly and we have committed to supporting annually. Others have been small projects , citywide or statewide organizations, or programs that our members are personally committed to. Our largest donation went to Dreams of Hope, which provides the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and allied youth a welcoming environment to grow in confidence, express themselves, and develop as leaders.
As we reflect on reaching $25,000, we realize the success of Share the Plate has been the result of incredible generosity from our members, friends and regular visitors. Thank you all for helping us change the world!
