We invite you to join us for our next installment of the Allegheny Racism Discussion movie night on Friday, February 24 at 6pm. We will be viewing the documentary ‘White Like Me’, based on the writings of anti-racism educator Tim Wise. Wise offers a fascinating look back at the race-based white entitlement programs that built the American middle class, and argues that our failure as a society to come to terms with this legacy of white privilege continues to perpetuate racial inequality and race-driven political resentments today. The film is 68 minutes long, so we’ll have plenty of time for some discussion afterwards. Please bring snacks & drinks! Also, we have talked about the possibility of childcare for the evening. Please check in with Shane Freeman or Kate Tomlinson for further info.
BONUS! The film ‘I Am Not Your Negro’, based on the writings of James Baldwin, will be opening that night at the Harris Theater downtown. Showtime will be 7:30 or 8pm. If anyone is interested in coordinating a field trip for a viewing, please contact Shane Freeman.
