Greater Pittsburgh area Unitarian Universalists are invited to come spend the afternoon at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden on Sunday, August 2!
1-5pm – Attendees receive free admission for the day to the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. There are gardens, exhibits, woodland walking trails, a heritage apple orchard with sheep and chickens, a passive mine drainage treatment system, and more.
2-2:30 pm – Worship service – Rev. Jim Magaw – “Blue Boat Home”
For centuries in the Judeo-Christian tradition, it was thought that humans were given the earth to have dominion over it. But the earth existed for billions of years before any humans came onto the scene and will be here long after we have become extinct. What then is our role in relationship to the earth? And how do the ways in which we imagine this relationship affect our actions?
There will be special activities for children and families all afternoon.
The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is located in Settlers Cabin Park about 15 miles west of downtown Pittsburgh. Our event will be in the air-conditioned Bayer Welcome Center, and will happen rain or shine. There are picnic tables near the parking area for anyone who might want to bring a picnic lunch. Donations will be accepted at the service to cover costs of the day.
