Last chance for end of year gifts

END OF YEAR GIFT TO ALLEGHENY – LAST CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE!

A big huge THANK YOU to everyone who has made an End of Year gift to Allegheny.  Because of you, our financial standing at year’s end is a bit rosier, making it possible for us to more ably support our mission to put Unitarian Universalism into action in our neighborhood, our city and our world.  If you haven’t yet joined with others of our Beloved Community at this year’s end, please take this opportunity to participate.  The year-end drive winds up this Sunday, 1/5/2014.  We encourage you to make a gift to the best of your ability by placing it in the collection plate (be sure to mark it “End of Year”) or seeing one of the Stewardship volunteers following the service.  No gift is too small or too big!  Thank you to everyone who helped out … every gift is appreciated.   – Betty Luff, Stewardship Chair

Celebration of Life: Walter J. Brethauer

Walter 2009

This Saturday morning, December 7, 11AM in the church sanctuary, we celebrate the life of dear friend and committed Unitarian Universalist, Walter J. Brethauer. Walter was a member here for 57 years and, among many other things, lay minister of Allegheny for many years starting in the 1950s. Please join wife Martha and daughter Jill as Rev. Dave and Jesse lead a celebration of this beloved pillar of our community. Receptions will be in the church’s Emerson (Fireside) Room at 10AM and one following the service at about 12PM.

You can read about his life from the Post-Gazette, the Tribune Review, or find a link to a 2012 special article done on his American Field Service experience.

Walter will be missed. And his legacy will live on in this beloved community that he supported with his generous spirit, and in the lives of all those he touched.

The candle may have been extinguished. But the light and the warmth remain.

In his sermon on July 21, Rev. Dave will be addressing questions YOU ask and responding to thoughts You have or whatever YOU want to know about Unitarian Universalism as practiced at Allegheny. Please use the cards found on the display table in the Emerson (fireside) Room. The fun, the serious, the frivolous, the deeply theological… all will be considered! Let your imagination and your curiosity run wild and find what Rev. Dave comes up with on Sunday, July 21.
