It’s time for us to convene new leadership and perhaps a new model for how we carry out that vital work. Powering Dreams of Hope through Share the Plate

Our new Share the Plate partner for Q1 2013 will be Dreams of Hope. Through the power of the arts, Dreams of Hope provides the region’s LGBT and allied youth a welcoming environment to grow in confidence, express themselves and develop as leaders. Their creative contributions educate audiences, build awareness and increase acceptance. The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander (The New Press) has been selected as the 2012-13 Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Common Read. Alexander, an attorney who is a civil rights advocate and litigator, asserts that crime-fighting policies and systems in the U.S., such as the “war on drugs” and the incarceration system, disproportionately and intentionally affect Americans of color.
