Breathe to Peace

I’m in no position to stop Middle East violence. Or Russian. Or Asian. Or African. Or American, for that matter. I’m in a somewhat better position to affect violence in my neighborhood: Reach out; Stand witness; Support my neighbor; Foster peace-making skills like anger management, impulse control, non-violent communication; Promote restorative (rather than retributive) justice in the school where my sons go; Let the kids down the street know that there are adults other than their relatives or pastors who care about them and want them to thrive… What I’m best...

Earth Spirit: here’s what you created at August 10 worship!

Our August 10 2014 worship service was around the “Sixth Source” of Unitarian Universalism: Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. Sabbatical Reflections: May 2014

“Coasting” We’re well past the mid-point of Allegheny’s sabbatical and I hope you are enjoying the fruits of this sabbatical season. You have every reason to feel good about your accomplishments. You have created worship for each another. You have supported each another pastorally. You have supported staff and leadership in their flourishing as they in turn support the flourishing of this community. You have kept warm the hearth and spiritual home. Even when the ceiling falls in. I was talking to a colleague friend who has a few sabbaticals to her credit. She said, “When some...

Sabbatical Reflections: February 2014

My challenge to the church: to purge only that within the institution or within you that refuses to grow. “Grow your soul.” That's the Charge to the Congregation.
